Road Vehicle TC Recruiting Experts for ISO Standard Revision – JUL, 2026

On July 21, 2026, SAC/TC114 (Road Vehicle), who is also the mirror committee of ISO/TC22 for China, issued notice (hereinafter referred to as “the Notice”) to call for experts to support the revision of ISO 16121-2 Road vehicles — Ergonomic requirements for the driver's workplace in line-service buses Part 2: Visibility. The deadline for submitting expert application is August 10 of 2026.

The currently effective ISO 16121-2 is published in August of 2011, and it specifies the requirements for the driver's field of view to the area in front of the vehicle, to the entrance opposite the driver's seat and the interior compartment. It applies to the driver's workplace in low-floor line-service buses designed for the carriage of passengers, comprising more than eight seats in addition to the driver's seat, and having a maximum weight exceeding five metric tons and an overall width exceeding 2.30 m. The revision of this ISO standard has been officially approved on July 17 of 2026 after years of technical research, and will be organized by ISO/TC 22/SC 35 (Lighting and visibility).

The Notice specifically explains that the purpose of this recruitment is to fully support the ISO standard revision task as the mirror committee by unifying technical consensus in the country. Also, as TC114 experts representing China has been assigned to lead the revision WG, this recruitment also aims at gathering experts from automotive manufacturers, vehicle testing institutions, universities, and research institutes to assist revision works such as experimental validation research and coordination of international opinions among experts from various countries etc. Qualifications of the applicant are also elaborated in the Notice, requiring the candidate to:

-   Have official approval from the entity employed to participate, and the candidate’s entity must be able to cover travel expenses and testing costs related to the expert's involvement in domestic and international discussions and experimental validations; 

-   Possess strong logical analysis skills and the ability to develop standardized technical proposals; 

-   Be able to commit continuously to research work related to this project for a period of approximately three years; 

-   Be proficient in product technical specifications and design requirements for low-floor buses; 

-   Have strong English reading, writing, and communication skills, capable of drafting technical documents and conducting international technical exchanges; 

-   Be willing to comply with unified scheduling, task assignments, and work management by the project organizing entity; 

-   Have experience in operating and using the ISO-OSD platform will be given priority.

Foreign stakeholders are advised to notice the on-going revision of this ISO standard, and those who is interested in the revision work and has legally registered entities in China are encouraged to have qualified experts to apply for the WG so as to contribute global experience as well as gaining first-hand information.

SAC/TC114 is the national standardization TC for road vehicle in China, and its secretariat is held by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd (CATARC). The TC is responsible for standardization work in professional fields including terminology, product classification, technical requirements, and test methods for cargo vehicles, off-road vehicles, dump trucks, tractor units, special-purpose vehicles, buses, passenger cars, vehicle trains (including semi-trailers and full trailers), motorcycles, and electric vehicles nationwide.
