On July 12, 2021, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the Notice on Advancing the Extensive Deployment and Application of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6).
From the perspective of industrial policy, the phased goals and plans for the implementation of IPv6 in emerging sectors such as industrial Internet, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, big data and artificial intelligence are put forward:
• At the end of 2023, the number of active IPv6 users will reach 700 million and the number of Internet of Things IPv6 connections will reach 200 million. The major domestic content distribution networks, data centers, cloud service platforms, and domain name resolution systems will be basically transformed to IPv6. Great progress will be made in the IPv6 single-stack pilot, and new network addresses will no longer use private IPv4 addresses.
• At the end of 2025, networks, platforms, applications, terminals and various industries will fully support IPv6. New websites and applications, networks and application infrastructure will be deployed with IPv6 single-stack on a large scale, forming a self-driven development trend led by innovation and featuring efficient collaboration.
• In the next five years, the evolutionary transition to IPv6 single-stack will be completed and IPv6 will be fully integrated into and applied in various sectors of the economy and society.
