[IoT] - SEP 10, 2021, New Action Plan for IoT Construction Announced

On September 10, 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Health Commission and the National Energy Administration (NEA) jointly issued the Three-year Action Plan for the New Infrastructure Construction on IoT (2021-2023) (hereinafter referred to as “the Plan”).

 

The key messages are summarized as follows:

 

Overall goal:

 

Build a new type of Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure initially in China’s major cities and lay a more solid foundation for social modernization governance, industrial digital transformation, the improvement of people's livelihood and consumption upgradation by the end of 2023.

 

Key indicators of the goal:

 

  • Make breakthroughs in innovation capability. Improve the level and market competitiveness of key technologies such as high-end sensors, IoT chips, IoT operation systems and new short-distant communications.

  • Improve industrial ecology. Develop 10 leading IoT enterprises with a value of over 10 billion Yuan.

  • Continue to expand the application scale. Achieve over 2 billion IoT connections.

  • Improve the supporting system. Complete the development of over 40 national standards or industry standards.
