On 6 May 2021, the drafted standard for “Limit of Harmful Substances in Furniture” was published calling for public comments, with deadline of 4 July 2021.
The drafting process of the mandatory standard is as follows.
In 2017, the national furniture Standards Committee proposed to revise and integrate the mandatory national standards GB 18584-2001 and GB 28481-2012 to formulate the mandatory national standard for the limit of harmful substances in furniture. In 2019, the National Standard Committee issued the compulsory national standard revision plan of "limit of harmful substances in furniture".
The international standards mainly referred to in the compilation process include:
· ANSI/BIFMAM7.1-2011(R2016)Standard Test Method for Determining VOC Emissions from Office Furniture System, Components, and Seating
· BS EN 636:2003Plywood–Specifications Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act
· GS-11 Green Seal Environmental Standard for Paints and Coatings
· ISO16000-3-2011Indoor air--Part3:Determination of formaldehyde and other carbonyl compounds in indoor air and test chamber air—Active sampling method
· ISO16000-9-2006Indoorair--Part9-2006:Determination of the emission of volatile organic compounds from building products and furnishing—Emission test chamber method
· ISO16000-6- 2011 Indoor air — Part 6: Determination of volatile organic compounds in indoor and test chamber air by active sampling on Tenax TA sorbent, thermal desorption and gas chromatography using MS or MS-FID
· ISO16017-1-2001 Indoor, ambient and workplace air. Sampling and analysis of volatile organic compounds by sorbent tube/thermal desorption/capillary gas chromatography. Pumped sampling
The domestic standards mainly referred to in the compilation process include:
· GB 6566-2010 Radionuclide limits for building materials
· GB 6675.4-2014 Safety of toys Part 4: transfer of specific elements
· GB 28481-2012 Limit of harmful substances in plastic furniture
· GB/T22048-2015 Determination of specific phthalate plasticizers in toys and children's articles
· GB/T26125-2011 Determination of six substances (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers) used in electronic and electrical products
· GB/T31106-2014 Determination of volatile organic compounds in furniture
· GB/T31107-2014 General specification for climate chamber for the detection of volatile organic compounds in furniture
· GB/T35607-2017 Green evaluation furniture
· GB/T38724-2020 Determination of radioactivity of harmful substances in furniture
· GB/TXXXX Determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in furniture
· QB/T2280-2016 Office furniture and office chair
· HJ 683-2014 Determination of aldehydes and ketones in ambient air by high performance liquid chromatography
This document specifies the limit requirements and test methods of harmful substances in furniture.
This document is applicable to all kinds of furniture, including wood furniture, metal furniture, soft furniture, plastic furniture, glass furniture, stone furniture, etc.
The limits of aldehydes, ketones and volatile organic compounds specified in this document are applicable to indoor furniture. The revision process of the standard integrates the requirements of the existing limit standards for harmful substances in furniture products and related raw and auxiliary materials. On the basis of synthesizing all kinds of general standards and limit standards of harmful substances, the limit index and test method are determined.
Comparison of domestic and foreign standards
The formulation process of the standard refers to the requirements of the existing domestic and foreign standards for the limit of harmful substances in furniture products and related raw and auxiliary materials
Bestao experts had made the table of Comparison of domestic and foreign limit values.
If you need the Comparison of domestic and foreign limit values, the Comparison of the test methods, and even the translation of the standard, please contact the experts of Bestao.
GB28481-2012 and GB18401-2001 will be abolished after the implementation
