On 29 March 2021, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China and the Secretariat of the League of Arab States co-hosted a video conference on data security between China and the League of Arab States. The two parties signed and published the Data Security Cooperation Initiative.

The two parties agreed that, in the context of the current development of the digital economy and prominent data and cybersecurity risks, the conclusion of the China and the League of Arab States Data Security Cooperation Initiative is of great and special significance, marking that the two parties have entered a new stage of strategic mutual trust and pragmatic cooperation in the digital field.
