Uploading Date: 2021-04-21 17:16:26

Standards working group on carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) held its first meeting on March 9 both online and on-site in Beijing. Mr. Ding Hui, Director of General Office of Climate Change Response Department, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and representatives from enterprises, universities and research institutions, Jioned the meeting.

As a carbon dioxide (CO2) mitigation technology that is applicable on a large scale, CCUS is a major approach for China to reach a peak in CO2 emissions and carbon neutrality. To attain this goal, promote international and national standards on CCUS and improve relevant standards system, CCUS standards working group was established by SAC/TC 548 on CO2 emission in collaboration with SAC/TC 20 on energy foundation and management and SAC/TC 207 on environmental management. The secretariat is undertaken by Resource and Environment Sub-Institute of CNIS, who is responsible for consultation and cooperation with ISO/TC 265 on carbon dioxide capture, transportation, and geological storage.

The WG will give recommendations on standardization policies, improve standards system, support application and demonstration of CCUS, and take part in international standards activities, in view of both priorities in climate change response enshrined in the Fourteenth Five-Year Plan and the current demand of CCUS application.

The WG will accelerate standards development, publicity and implementation in major CCUS areas to effectively support the implementation of relevant policies, serving national goals and demands.
