[ ICT ]- AUG 6 2020, China Established new Subcommittee on AI

The inaugural meeting and first plenary meeting of national technical subcommittee on artificial intelligence (AI) were held on August 6 in both physical and virtual forms, attracting more than 70 and 300 representatives respectively.

 

At the inaugural meeting, the approval document of establishing the subcommittee was announced together with work responsibilities and member list of the subcommittee. And certificates were awarded to chair, vice-chair, secretary and deputy secretary of the subcommittee.

 

It is the right time and of great significance to establish the national standardization subcommittee on AI, as there are urgent demands for AI standardization, said Guo Huanxin, Deputy Director-General of Standards Technical Management Department, SAMR.

 

Prior to this, SAMR has actively promoted the standardization work on AI, and approved the establishment of the national standardization group and expert advisory group on AI and the coordination mechanism of AI standardization, enhancing the top design of AI standardization by releasing the National Guidelines on Establishing the Standards System of Next-Generation AI as well as accelerating the development of standards in fundamental common fields, added Guo.

 

At the plenary meeting chaired by Lin Ning, chair of the AI subcommittee, secretary and vice chairs of the subcommittee announced the regulations and first batch of organization members, introduced the procedure of applying for work group or research group leader and shared the annual work plan of the subcommittee in this year. The participating members had heated discussions, offering insightful suggestions for the future development of AI standardization.

 

By far, the subcommittee on AI has 48 expert members and 173 organization members with its secretariat undertaken by China Electronics Standardization Institute. It has set up several groups including fundamental working group, model and algorithm research group, chip and system research group, product and service research group as well as credibility research group.

 

In the next step, the subcommittee will carry out standardization research in the above-mentioned areas and further improve organizational management. As required in the Guidelines, it will also strengthen the new infrastructure research, practically promote international cooperation and support the development of AI industry in China.
