Calling Drafting Units: Mandatory Standards for Pump and Data Storage Device Energy efficiency – SEP, 2024

In end September of 2024, SAC/TC20 (Energy Fundamentals and Management) successively issued notice on 27th and 29th to call for drafting units for two mandatory national standards:

Minimum allowable values   of energy efficiency and energy efficiency grades for centrifugal pump units   for fresh water

It specifies energy   efficiency limit value, energy efficiency grade, energy efficiency   calculation and testing method of clean water centrifugal pump group.
  It is applicable to the evaluation of energy efficiency levels of clean water   centrifugal pumps (including single-stage single-suction centrifugal pumps,   single-stage double-suction centrifugal pumps, pipeline centrifugal pumps,   multistage centrifugal pumps, light multistage centrifugal pumps, hereinafter   referred to as pumps).
  It does not apply to non-metal pumps and shaftless rotary power pumps.

Energy efficiency   standards are an important and effective measure for the government to   implement energy conservation management, improve energy utilization efficiency,   and standardize the market of energy-using products under the conditions of   market economy. Energy efficiency standards are also the technical basis for   the national energy efficiency labeling system and energy-saving product   certification system. It is of great significance to revise and maintain the   advanced nature of the standard technical content in time.

Minimum allowable values   of energy efficiency and energy efficiency grades for data   storage devices

Data storage devices defined   by this standard are those used to store data and process data read and write   operations, covering block storage and file storage. Block access storage and   file access storage refer to the types of services typically provided by   storage area network (SAN) and network Attached storage (NAS) systems,   respectively. Other storage products are not covered by the standard.
  This energy efficiency standard is used to evaluate the energy efficiency   test methods and energy efficiency grades of data center storage devices, and   to standardize the test environment, test methods, energy efficiency   indicators, and additional points

Both standards are mandatory standards and are planned to be drafted without any international standard adoption. These two standards are expected by the TC to be finished

Qualifications required by both standards as drafting units are specified as:

ž   Candidates should be aware that once approved as drafting unit, they should provide timely and continuous technical assistance and other necessary support for the formulation of national standards.

ž   The applicant should have intermediate or above professional titles or corresponding management positions.

ž   The applicant should have work experience related to the standard topic, and be able to participate in the drafting of standards as required, and those with national standard drafting experience are preferred.

For foreign stakeholder and MNCs, the drafting unit recruiting deadline for the standards are:

ž   The one for centrifugal pump units for fresh water: October 15, 2024

ž   The one for data storage devices: October 31, 2024

Relevant and qualified stakeholders are advised to apply as it is a good channel to participate in China’s standard system and a convenient opportunity to communicate.

The full name of SAC/TC20 is National Standardization Technical Committee on Energy Fundamentals and Management. It is founded in 1981 and is the mirror committee of China for ISO/TC301 (Energy management and energy savings).

The working scope of the TC is energy conservation as well as other professional fields including but not limited in generality in energy, comprehensive foundations and management expertise.
