First of all, the WG’s name has change from the previous “Quantum Computing” to “Quantum Information Technology”. And the updated working scope has been changed into:

·   Research the JTC 1 projects related to quantum information technology (QIT) standardization, identify the gap and opportunity of QIT standardization, and compile the QIT standardization roadmap;

·   Maintain a list of QIT standards;

·   Develop QIT standards, technical specifications, technical reports and other deliverables;

·   Participate in the work of ISO, IEC and other quantum technology related standardization organizations on behalf of JTC 1, and carry out liaison and cooperation.

A new preliminary work item is also approved in the Plenary Meeting called Information Technology-Quantum Simulation-Taxonomy of quantum simulator architectures and quantum simulation programming.
WG 14 will also organize global standardization forum on QITto discuss on topics such as standardization need, opportunity and roadmap.

Background information:

In June 2020, WG 14 was established by JTC 1 at its plenary meeting. It serves as a systems integration entity to focus on JTC 1’s standardization program on Quantum Computing and maintain relationships with other related ISO and IEC/TCs and other organizations. The responsibility of WG 14 is to identify gaps and opportunities and develop deliverables in the area of Quantum Computing.

WG 14 is originally from JTC 1/SG 2 and AG 4. In March 2018, a report on advanced computing was presented at JAG meeting. Later JETI began the writing of the Quantum Computing Technology Trend Report (TTR). In November 2018, JTC 1 established SG 2 to improve the understanding of the state of standardization and to explore a possible role for JTC 1 at the 33rd plenary meeting. In May 2019, JTC 1 reconstituted AG 4, strengthening research on applications and market demand, and accomplished the study report for Quantum Computing.
