On May 7, 2022, the Science and Technology Department of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued an official notice to call for comments on seven mandatory national standards. These standards cover the following contents:

·   limitations on harmful substances in furniture

·   technical specifications for the structural safety of furniture

·   technical specifications for the safety of infant and children's furniture

·   safety requirements for bicycles

·   safety requirements for electric bicycles

·   safety and hygiene requirements for heat-resistant glassware

·   safety specifications for lithium-ion batteries and battery packs for portable electronic products

All standards are developed in accordance with the drafting and revision plan for mandatory national standards. Along with the standard drafts, MIIT also released development specifications. The call for comments period will end on June 6, 2022.

As mentioned in the previous articles, these 7 standards are mandatory technical requirements for such products to enter the China market. They also will replace a series of current standards of corresponding sectors and products. Foreign stakeholders and relevant MNCs are advised to be attentive to the follow-up notice as well as to participate in the call-for-comments.

Further details of these 7 standards are summarized as follows.
