On December 3, 2024, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CNCA) introduced an update to the mandatory certification (CCC) requirements for cord sets used in circuit switches, protective devices, or connection devices. The applicable standards have been streamlined, shifting from GB/T 15934 and GB/T 26219 to exclusively GB/T 15934.

Previously, the CCC certification system for cord sets referenced both GB/T 15934 Electrical accessories - Cord sets and interconnection cord sets and GB/T 26219 Electrical accessories - Y-splitter cord sets and Y-splitter interconnection cord sets. Adherence to these standards is compulsory for products intended for the Chinese market.

The 2024 edition of GB/T 15934 was published on September 29, 2024, and is set to become effective on October 1, 2025. This revised standard consolidates and updates the technical specifications from the 2008 version of GB/T 15934 and the 2010 version of GB/T 26219, effectively incorporating all the technical requirements previously outlined in GB/T 26219.

The CNCA has outlined the following key points:

·         Designated certification bodies are authorized to perform CCC certification using the updated GB/T 15934-2024 standard, as specified in the Notice on Requirements for Revising Standards for Compulsory Product Certification.

·         From October 1, 2025, all CCC certifications must adhere to GB/T 15934-2024.

·         CCC certification is mandatory for cord sets sold independently in China, particularly those used in mobile machinery.

·         Existing CCC certificate holders are encouraged to consult their certification bodies to align their certificates with the new standard.

·         Products lacking CCC certification should begin the certification process based on GB/T 15934-2024.

This update intends to ensure that cord sets meet the latest technical and safety standards, maintaining compliance with China's regulatory framework. Relevant foreign stakeholders need to be aware of the change and take necessary compliance actions accordingly.
