On August 23, 2024, the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) announced the approval of 335 national standards together with their implementation date, five of them are for intelligent and connected vehicles (ICV).

China’s ICV national standards are organized and managed by SAC/TC114/SC34 (Intelligent and Connected Vehicle), which was founded in December of 2017. And for this batch of 5 standards, they are all newly-formulated without any international adoption, and the implementation date is August 23, 2024, which is the same date of the approval announcement.

Further details and the information about the five standards are summarized as below:

Standard No.

Standard Name

Scope and Main Contents

Significance

GB/T 44298—2024

Intelligent and connected   vehicles—Symbols for controls, indicators and tell-tales

It specifies basic   requirements of the signs of the control parts, indicators and signal devices   and the display colors of the signal devices for intelligent and intelligent   vehicles.

The implementation of the   standard will guide manufacturers to use unified and easy-understanding signs   or animations to represent the functional state on the basis of functional   conformity. It is expected to help avoiding confusion and reducing the learning   cost for drivers.

GB/T 44373—2024

Intelligent and connected   vehicle—Terms and definitions

It specifies terms and   definitions related to basic general, key technologies, system components and   functional applications of intelligent connected vehicles, and it is   applicable to Class M, Class N and Class O vehicles.

This standard is expected   to guide the ICV sector to use unified and easy-understanding terms to   express related functions and systems, avoid differences in the understanding   of different parties to the same term, reduce industry communication and   exchange costs, and support the healthy and rapid development of the   industry.

GB/T 44461.1—2024

Intelligent and connected   vehicle—Technical requirements and testing methods for combined driver   assistance system—Part 1: Single-lane maneuver

It specified the   technical requirements of state transition, cue signal, driver monitoring and   motion control of ICV single-lane and multi-lane driving control systems. It   also describes the test methods that are applied to class M and Class N   vehicles equipped with corresponding systems.

These two standards will   support the competent authorities to carry out sector management, guide   enterprises to produce combined driver assistance systems that meet the   requirements of safe use. It is also aiming at promoting the safe use and   smooth operation of combined driver assistance systems of ICV.

GB/T 44461.2—2024

Intelligent and connected   vehicle—Technical requirements and testing methods for combined driver   assistance system—Part 2: Multi-lane maneuver

GB/T 44464—2024

General requirements of   vehicle data

It specifies the general requirements,   personal information protection requirements, important data protection   requirements, audit evaluation and test requirements of the data generated   and collected in the process of research and development, design and   manufacturing of automotive products. It also describes the corresponding   test methods, which are applicable to automotive products and automotive data   processors.

This standard is expected   to play an important role in the implementation of data security and personal   information protection for the automotive sector. It also establishes the   bottom line of data security compliance in the automotive sector.

Foreign stakeholders and MNCs of the corresponding sectors or in the industrial chain are advised to follow-up on the updates of ICV standards. In the context where China is greatly promoting the intelligent and green transition, and the fact that the country’s influence in the EV sector is growing, the ICV sector will also be one of the focuses for relevant stakeholders and is expecting for a fast growth from both technical and business perspective.
