On May 26, 2022, the Guangdong Cosmetics Association issued their draft of a standard called the Determination of retinol, retinyl acetate retinyl, palmitatehydroxypinacolone retinoate in Cosmetics by HPLC and HPLC-MSMS (hereinafter referred to as “the Draft”). The Draft was finished on May 19 by the Association and other relevant enterprises, citing both GB/T 6379 Accuracy (trueness and precision) of measurement methods and results (a serial of standards that are identical to ISO 5725 series) and GB/T 6682 Water for analytical laboratory use - Specification and test methods.

The Draft contains 5 chapters and 3 annexes, and the main contents covers following key points:

·   Scope: it applies to determining the volume of retinol, retinyl acetate retinyl, palmitatehydroxypinacolone retinoate in toners, lotions, creams.

·   Detailed requirements and technical parameters for HPLC and HPLC-MSMS

    - Testing principles

    - Reagents or materials that used in the testing.

    - Devices and equipment

    - Testing procedures

    - Sample testing

    - Result calculation

    - Limits for detection and quantitation

    - Precision requirements.

The annexes specify the standard substance information, HPLC for the mentioned standard substances, and the multiple reaction monitor (MRM) map for the mentioned standard substances.

For foreign stakeholders, although the Draft is an association standard which means no mandatory bound for manufacturers, the testing methods and parameters concluded in the Draft can be used as a reference to understand possible official perspective on the regional management level.
