Uploading Date: 2022-08-23 15:45:02

On July 14, 2022, China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS) issued both a draft and call for public comments on their newly released national standard named Minimum allowable values of energy efficiency and energy grades for servers (hereinafter referred to as “the Standard”). The call-for-comment period ended on August 13, 2022.

The standard project was assigned by the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) to TC20 ( the National Technical Committee on Energy Fundamentals and Management) in December of 2009 with the project number 20091296-Q-469. This year (2022) marks the second round to call for public comment (the first round was organized in July of 2020). The Standard aims at optimizing server energy efficiency while guiding relevant enterprises to save energy.

China’s fast development and focus on ICT technologies, as well as its big territory and population, has resulted in the vast growth and application of servers all around the country. This has resulted in huge amounts of energy consumption. Such circumstances must be considered in the grand scheme of both power supply and environmental protection. Adequate energy consumption for server use could initiate substantial amounts of energy being saved.
